A website from ChatGPT in an HTML file – where to host it and what not to forget

An HTML file from ChatGPT or Claude is a finished website that still needs a place on the internet. To make it work at your own address you need hosting and a domain: you upload the file to the server as index.html and point the domain at that server. The easiest way is regular hosting, the kind that already runs your business email. Before the site reaches customers, though, check the form, the images and the copy, because that is where AI most often leaves gaps.

Below I describe both publishing routes and the list of things I check before launching a site like this.

What exactly did the AI chat give you?

Before choosing where to put the website, look at what you have. It is usually one of three situations:

  • A single HTML file with the styles inside. It opens in the browser when you double-click it and looks good. This is the simplest case.
  • An HTML file plus separate files – styles, scripts, a folder with images. They have to be uploaded together, keeping the folder structure.
  • Code that relies on external libraries, such as Tailwind CSS loaded from the internet. It works, but that version of Tailwind is meant for testing, not for production websites, so it is usually worth reworking before launch.

Pay attention to the images as well. AI often inserts photos from external services or grey placeholder boxes. A business website should use your own files, stored on your own server.

Option 1: regular hosting with email

This is the route I recommend for most businesses. If you already have hosting (for example the one that runs email on your domain), a static website fits there at no extra cost.

  1. Log in to the hosting panel and open the file manager, or connect via FTP.
  2. Go to the website folder, usually public_html or domains/yourdomain.com/public_html.
  3. Upload the index.html file and the other files, keeping the folders.
  4. Make sure the domain points to this hosting.
  5. Enable an SSL certificate. Most hosts offer a free Let’s Encrypt certificate you can switch on with one click.

The advantage is having everything in one place: website, email and invoices from a single provider. It is also easy to get a contact form working on this kind of hosting, more on that below.

Option 2: free static site hosting

Services such as Netlify, Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages let you publish an HTML website for free, including on your own domain. They are fast and handle heavy traffic well.

There are two downsides. Connecting a domain requires some confidence with DNS records. And they do not provide email or a classic contact form handler, so sending messages has to be solved separately, for example with the platform’s own form service.

This is a good choice if your email lives elsewhere (for example in Google Workspace) and you do not mind configuring DNS.

What not to forget before publishing

  • The contact form. An HTML file on its own cannot send a message. A form made by AI usually looks right, but after clicking “Send” nothing reaches your inbox. On regular hosting it is connected with a short PHP script; on static hosting, with an external form service. Always send a test message.
  • Placeholder content. Sample reviews, numbers like “500 happy clients”, a made-up address or phone number. AI adds them readily, and on a business website every one of them has to be true.
  • Images. Your own files instead of links to other people’s servers, reduced to a sensible size, with a description in the alt attribute.
  • Privacy policy and cookies. If the site collects data through a form or uses analytics, you need a privacy policy, and with analytics also cookie consent.
  • Title, description and sitemap. To be visible in Google, the page needs its own title and description and to be submitted in Search Console.
  • The mobile version. Check the site on a real phone, not just in the browser preview.
  • A site icon (favicon) and correct contact details in the footer.

When is an HTML file enough, and when is WordPress better?

A static site works well for a simple landing page or a business card site you rarely change. It is fast, cheap to run and needs no updates. Every content change, however, means editing the code.

If you want to edit the copy yourself, publish posts or plan to expand the site, it is better to treat the AI design as a template and rebuild it in WordPress.

When is it worth handing this over?

If you have hosting and are comfortable with a file manager, you can publish a simple landing page yourself. Problems most often appear with the form, the domain and the certificate, and on a page used for ads, every day with a broken form means lost enquiries.

I deploy AI-designed websites starting at PLN 300 for a simple landing page with no extra coding. That covers publishing the site on your domain and connecting a working form, and I set up the SSL certificate if your hosting offers a free one or you have your own. Basic SEO and larger projects are quoted separately. The details are on the AI website deployment page, and if you already have the file ready, get in touch.

FAQ

Where can I publish an HTML website from ChatGPT?

The easiest option is the regular hosting that runs your business email: you upload the file as index.html to the website folder. Free static site hosts such as Netlify, Cloudflare Pages or GitHub Pages are an alternative, but they do not handle email or classic contact forms.

Why doesn’t the form on my ChatGPT website send messages?

Because an HTML file on its own cannot send email. AI creates how the form looks, but sending needs a script on the server, for example in PHP, or an external form service.

Do I need WordPress to publish a website made with AI?

No. An HTML file works on any hosting without WordPress. WordPress becomes useful when you want to edit content in an admin panel yourself or expand the site.

Will a website from an HTML file show up in Google?

Yes, if it has its own title and description, sensible headings and a sitemap, and it is submitted in Google Search Console. Simply publishing the file is not enough for Google to find it quickly and understand it well.

How much does it cost to publish a website made with AI?

Hosting with a domain is a regular yearly cost, and on free static hosting you only pay for the domain. If you prefer to hand it over, I deploy a simple landing page starting at PLN 300.
